Car Aerial & Antenna Adapters

(103 products)

A car aerial adapter, sometimes called a car antenna adapter, connects your vehicle's factory aerial plug to an aftermarket stereo, so your radio reception keeps working properly when you replace the original car radio. Our range covers the most common connector types, including Fakra, DIN, ISO, SMB and SMA.

Older cars typically use DIN or ISO connectors, while modern cars often use Fakra, and our DAB adapters help you keep digital radio. Every adapter is supplied by Connects2. Whether you need a universal adapter or a vehicle-specific fitment, you'll find the right connection here, in stock for fast dispatch.

Aerial adapters are grouped by the connector on your vehicle, as this decides which adapter will convert the factory connection to suit an aftermarket head unit.

Key features to check include the connector type and whether the adapter is passive or powered.

Fakra Aerial Adapters

Fakra connectors are common on European vehicles like VW, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, linking the factory aerial to aftermarket stereos. Options include passive adapters for non-amplified aerials, phantom power versions for amplified aerials, and twin (double) Fakra adapters for cars with two aerial leads.

DIN and ISO Aerial Adapters

Most aftermarket stereos have a DIN aerial socket, while many older VW, Audi, Seat and Vauxhall models use an ISO aerial plug. Adapters such as DIN to ISO or ISO to DIN allow different stereo types to connect properly. Amplified versions are also available for cars with powered aerials.

DAB Aerial Adapters and Splitters

DAB radio aerials often use SMB or SMA connectors instead of standard DIN inputs, requiring dedicated adapters for aftermarket stereos. A splitter allows one existing aerial to deliver both FM and DAB signals, avoiding the need for a second aerial. Splitters work with non-amplified FM aerials only, so cars with an amplified aerial need a dedicated DAB aerial instead.

Vehicle Specific Aerial Adapters

Vehicle-specific aerial adapters are built to match the exact connector fitted to your car, van or 4x4, ideal if you'd rather not guess between connector types. Selecting an adapter for your specific make and model simplifies installation and reduces the risk of a poor connection.

Why Choose the Right Car Aerial Adapter?

Choosing the right aerial adapter affects your reception quality and how smoothly the stereo installation goes overall.

AM, FM and DAB Reception

The correct aerial adapter keeps your factory aerial working with your new stereo, helping maintain clear AM and FM reception, plus DAB where your aerial supports it. Without it, the factory aerial lead may not plug into your new stereo at all.

Phantom Power for Amplified Aerials

Some factory aerials need a 12V feed from the stereo to function correctly. A phantom power adapter provides this connection, helping amplified aerial systems avoid weak or lost reception.

Plug and Play Installation

Aerial adapters connect your existing factory lead to the new stereo without cutting or splicing the factory wiring. Phantom power adapters and DAB splitters have one extra wire that connects to the stereo's 12V aerial power lead. This keeps installation straightforward and means the original connection can be restored later if you ever sell the vehicle or revert the stereo.

Correct Connector Fitment

Different vehicle models and model years can use different car aerial connectors, even within the same manufacturer. Choosing an adapter based on your vehicle's actual connector helps ensure a secure fit and a reliable signal from day one.

FAQs about Car Aerial Adapters

Which car aerial adapter is best?

The best car aerial adapter is the one that matches your vehicle's connector and reception needs, not a specific brand. Check whether your car uses Fakra, DIN, ISO, SMB or SMA, then pick the adapter built for that fitting.

Which car aerial adapter do I need for my car?

The adapter you need depends on your car's make, model and aerial connector type, usually Fakra, DIN or ISO. If you're unsure, visit your nearest store and one of our fitters can confirm the right adapter for your vehicle.

Do I need a DAB adapter or a new DAB aerial?

If your car came with factory DAB, a DAB adapter is usually enough. If it only had FM radio, a DAB splitter can work with a non-amplified aerial, but cars with an amplified aerial need a dedicated DAB aerial. An adapter or splitter lets your existing aerial work with one of our DAB Car Stereos.
